Asta Cink is a visual artist with roots in dance and acting.
"Facing Me" is nothing less than the question of one's own existence in its past, present and future forms. The mirror, an essential element in Cink's works, brings us closer to the transience of our existence and makes us reflect on the presence and absence of our vanity. Is it perhaps a virtue? In the pursuit of self-assurance, the self multiplies until it surrounds itself, until it exists behind, between, under, against and in front of itself. The series Gegenüber Mir was created back in 2016 and is Cink's first major work. It is here that the theme of mirrors emerges for the first time, which is a recurrent thread running through her work. Either directly or at the interface between digital and analogue.
"For me, looking into the mirror is like looking into the camera.
The mirror is a vanitas motif and refers to the fleeting nature of human existence.
Photography allows me to capture this ephemerality in analogue film stock."
